Leading through Service to Others - Core Value #3

In this post we will dig further into ECM's core values. Your team has been evaluating ECM's core values with the goal of developing specific steps that will guide you in fulfilling the mission and vision of ECM. You will continue to do this as you evaluate the next value.  There are no right or wrong answers. I ask you only to honestly, together with your co-workers, discuss what each value looks like with "flesh" on it.  How can we put each value into practice on a regular basis?  I look forward to your comments as together we grow as a staff.  Here is Core Value #3:

We will Lead through Service to Others: Guided by Christ's perfect example, we will operate a culture of servant leadership at all times and in every situation.

How can we, as ECM staff, be intentional about leading through service to others?  Share your responses/ideas in the comments section on this blog, and discuss with your co-workers!

As ECM staff, we can be intentional in leadership through service by being exemplary, as Jesus was to his disciples, as illustrated through the following ways:
    Empathy
As ECM staff, we need to identify and understand the feelings, emotions and needs of the vulnerable communities. This should motivate us to go an extra mile to help and give our best towards bringing hope and practical help.
    Romans 12:15
    John 11:33-35
    Listening
We should pay keen attention to what the vulnerable communities are saying. As servant leaders, we strive towards understanding interpersonal situation of the children and their families. This enables us to do counselling and evangelism, as well as capacity building and empowerment.
    Proverbs 17:27
    Philippians 2:4
    Awareness
We need to be aware of our weaknesses, strengths, emotions, and values. This self-awareness allows us to understand personal biases and set them aside while making decisions.
    Psalms 51
    Healing
As servant leaders, we need to exhibit high level of trust and sincere interest in fostering the communities’ emotional and spiritual wellbeing by taking an active role in promoting the mental and emotional strength of the community.
    2nd Chronicles 7:14-15
    Stewardship
As ECM staff, we need to recognize that we are only custodians of the organization’s resources entrusted to us. We assume complete responsibility for planning and managing all available resources for the betterment and prosperity of the organization, employees and stakeholders.
    Gen 2:15
    Conceptualize
We need to project the future, and reconcile it with the current realities. As such, we should be in position to avert the possible negative outcomes through being flexible and changing strategies.
    Mark 16:15-18

    Persuasive
ECM staff need to give room for others to express their opinions and actions, and have respect for ideas and a feeling for others. This will instill a feeling of belonging and ownership of the organization.
    2 Corinthians 5:11
    Community building
As servant leaders, we should create a feeling of belonging to something bigger than each individual and foster team spirit and a sense of community. We also deeply care for the communities we serve.
    1Corinthians 1:10
    Committed to grow others
As ECM, we need to look upon ourselves to develop others, especially to help the employees to chart out a clear career path and provide them with resources from one level to the next.
